I followed this guide closely, there are a few steps you needed to pay attention too but otherwise this went smoothly. The download link from the Microsoft site has disappeared, but the alternative link from the CNET site was working at the time of this post. I found the following setup guide very useful from Help Desk Geek website ( click). Turns out this was easier than I expected. The Motorola CPS software is from around the same time, so it was an ideal candidate to try. I remember when Windows 7 was first released Microsoft released a version of Windows XP that would run within Microsoft Virtual PC. So the only alternative was to experiment with an older version of Windows in a virtual machine and passing through a serial port. I could not get the CPS software to “read device” instead receiving a timeout. There is something fundamental in the RS232 32-bit sub-system within the CPS software that prevents this from ever working. I’ll spare you the gory details, but not amount of compatibility mode twiddling or research would result in a working system. So rather than go looking for further ancient hardware I started experimenting if Motorola CPS would run on a Windows 10 64-bit platform. My immediate thought was “yikes what do I use now to program these Motorola radios” ? However my trusty old Windows XP laptop, with a real serial port fried its motherboard recently never to boot again. I still have a number of UHF Motorola MTS2000 handhelds which once given new batteries have proven themselves useful time and time again. Others may want to consider this before upgrading. It is no secret that Motorola CPS software does not like to run on modern operating systems. If I were to install these latest versions, I don't think I would be able to retain a 25 Khz receive only channel in the radios. (EMS is a bit of an orphan child up here, it seems.) The fire channels which are the same model base radios sound just fine on the same mobiles, portables, and pagers. We're not sure that the county had the EMS base radios properly narrowbanded because they sound like crap now. I am discovering that it might be advantageous to have a receive only channel at 25 KHz in our radios on at least one of the primary EMS frequencies in our area. Once you have programmed a radio using these latest versions, there's no going back. If I understand the release notes correctly, these versions will not allow 20.0 or 25.0 KHz spacing. They have only been up on MOL for a day or two:īe aware! These releases specifically address 12.5 Khz. Commercial, Professional Radio and Personal Radio. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola). The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate just purchase it.įor M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
